Hey Everybody,
Wow! Do I have a special post for this Friday Follies? It’s very personal, but I want to share with you an unforgettable memory that I will keep forever prominent in my heart space. So…I want to direct this message to the group who showed up across the street from the CMA building here in Nashville on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for several hours each day. They held up signs to try to inform and influence people to get me inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. What a surprise that was to me. I had no idea they were planning this.
Here’s what I learned…Sharlyn came from Las Vegas with t-shirts she had made. Norma Jean came from Omaha, Nebraska, with posters she had printed to display. Curtis drove from Missouri and stayed busy holding the big signs, often talking to passers-by and waving to the onlookers. Also in the group, Amy Jo and Deborah from Pennsylvania, Richard Jr. & Sr. from Ohio and Rhonda Kelley from Tennessee reportedly had fun making friends with those who stopped to ask why everyone was there standing out in the chilly October air all day. Vonnie from Pennsylvania who earned the name “Chief” coordinated the event. She brought packages of written material to hand out, along with bumper stickers to give away, plus she had cookies (baked by her niece) with the HAPPIEST GIRL album likeness painted on some of them and another picture of me on others. Because of Vonnie’s determination and leadership, not only did her idea become a reality but also beautiful friendships have been created, lives have been blessed and there’s a vibrant positive energy that’s working on something magical – we don’t know what it is – but we can’t wait to find out and celebrate.
Of course, my two “right-hand” girls, Linda my fan club coordinator (who also provided written material to distribute) and Brenda my assistant and bookkeeper (who shot the video) held the secret from me until they talked me into getting out of the office for lunch. Imagine how surprised I was to see all these wonderful people when we got to the restaurant. Richard Sr. presented me with a beautiful doll, and Richard Jr gave me pretty red roses from him, his father and his wife Lori. I was tickled that we had just picked up the fabulous new “Winners” print and I was able to give a copy to everyone in this great group of winners!
Oh, my, my my. I can’t believe you would do this for me. It is humbling and overwhelming that you would go out of your way and collectively join together in Nashville in support of me. Linda reminded me that many people in the fan club are writing letters to accomplish this goal, too, and I want you to know how appreciative I am of your efforts as well.
To say you have honored me is quite the understatement. Whether the Country Music Association ever finds me worthy enough to be included in the esteemed Country Music Hall of Fame, this show of support and loyalty, kindness and dedication was so touching and beyond describable. Your sweet actions revealed your big hearts of love and friendship. You all are my award. Gosh. Thank you. I may really just be the “happiest girl in the whole USA” now, and you are all the good guys and girls. I love you more than you can imagine!
Donna
