Time for Friday Follies! And I get to talk to my favorite people! If you made any new resolutions, I hope you’re feeling so proud of yourselves. But we’ll talk more specifically about that if you want to share your stories on February 2nd – next Friday. We will have been off something for a month! See how time flies. But it was slow when it was going by, huh?
Well, Vonnie Watson came up with a post asking what songs you would love to hear me sing. It was so interesting to read your suggestions. Larry mentioned “Ragamuffin Man.” And I assume by some of your comments you interpreted Vonnie’s question to mean you’d like to hear me sing the songs live rather than just hear them on cd. I did record “Ragamuffin Man” for my SHAME ON ME album. Love the song “Suspicious Minds.” Sammantha likes “I Wrote This Song Just for You” and “Lonestar Cowboy.” (I always thought “Lonestar Cowboy” was a hit.) Shows you what I know. Actually, though, I don’t think it was promoted, so it didn’t have a chance. I love some of your suggestions, like “That’s What Friends Are For,” “Ode to Billie Jo,” “In the Garden,” “Peace in the Valley,” and “Old Rugged Cross.” I used to do “Apt. #9” and “Walk Through This World With Me” very early in my career before “Happiest Girl.” When I was still dreaming and trying to learn how not to faint on stage, I worked at some clubs in the Southern California area like the Palomino Club. I would do current songs that were hits at the time so the band would more likely know the material, and the rehearsal time, if there was any, would be shorter. It was really valuable experience. I had not heard the song “Mayberry” by Rascal Flatts, but I just listened to it. That would seem like a good idea for me. Interesting. I love Rascal Flatts. Thanks, Amy. Like “Snowbird.” You guys have wonderful ideas. I remember the Karen Carpenter song “Top of the World,” Bob, I could see how you could hear that from me. And it was nice to see you in Mt. Airy, too. Thanks for making the trip. “Wind Beneath My Wings” was such a hit. I actually used to do the Juice Newton song “The Sweetest Thing I’ve Ever Known Is Loving You.” Classic song, Bruce. Also, “I’m Not Lisa.” Hey Bill Lee! “Hopelessly Devoted to You” is also super cool. Olivia Newton-John was such a nice lady and was so talented. I’ve been sorry we never did a Christmas album. If we had, I would probably have done “Silent Night,” Dave. I did record some Christmas songs like “Oh, Holy Night,” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” at the same session as “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and “House of the Rising Sun” for Laser Light. And also “Blue Christmas” for a Charlie McCoy album called CHARLIE’S ANGELS.
To change subjects here, I want to thank all my prayer partners for answering the call to pray for Margo Smith. I appreciate you so much and she would have been so touched by your love and concern. I could hardly even write the sad note to tell everyone that she passed away. It was a shock. I miss her and will miss her so much. She was such a special lady and great friend.
On a brighter note, I have a new Valentine greeting card out. It is so pretty. It even has a rhinestone on it for all you rhinestone cowgirls or for you guys to give to the love of your life. It’s called “Valentine…Our Love Is About Loving Each Other All the Time.” We will put a picture of it on here so you can see the outside. It’s a Blue Mountain Arts card.
We’re working on some other ideas that we’ll share with you as time goes on.
I hope you’re all happy and healthy and all that good stuff.
I love you so!
Donna
P.S. I did an interview with Peter Kulsziski this week from Surry On The Go. It’s always fun when we get together. If you haven’t seen the video yet, here’s a link to their Facebook page… www.facebook.com/surryonthego. On another note, Joe Don Baker at Classic Country Saturday Night has some special information he’ll be sharing on his show this weekend, so be sure to listen!
