Hey My Friday Follies Friends,

I hope you’re all doing well and taking great care of yourselves!

We’re so excited that my new song “Small Town Hillbilly Good-Time Saturday Night” debuted at 72 on the September Cashbox charts and jumped to 54 for October.  Oh, thank you, Cashbox and all the radio stations and djs who believe in “Small Town” enough to give it a chance!  We love you so!!!

We’re enjoying the new music landscape but there is so much to learn in this digital age.  And I want to thank you all for helping us as we continue to build our foundation of new music.  Every stream and every download are important whether they’re on Amazon, Apple Music, Spotify or Pandora – y’all are paving the way for more people to discover “Small Town” and other songs too.  Keep it going, my friends!

So I’ll go back to a question I had about what makes a song stick with you and stay in your memory.  Well, I think sometimes it’s a beautiful melody like the Paul Anka song, “Do I Love You” or sometimes the lyrics like Kirksville, Missouri” by yours truly.  I think the biggest hits are almost always a marriage of the melody and the lyrics, like say “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly or Shel Silverstein’s “A Couple More Years.” Sometimes it’s an idea that makes you think about something in a different way, like my “That Was Yesterday” or Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me,” or it may be the rhythm and musical track that just makes you move to it, and that’s definitely “Small Town Hillbilly Good-Time Saturday Night.”  Hot Dog!

From a songwriter’s viewpoint, one dreams of an inspiring idea that people can identify with, want to sing along to and hear again and again.  I always try to write an intriguing or interesting first line and then try to make the next one better.  Sometimes, too, I think we become fans of songs first because of the way the artist sings it…like Tom Jones singing “Green Grass of Home.”

Thank you all for your emails and your sweet comments about “Small Town” and how much fun it is – hopefully it’s one of those songs that you can’t get out of your head.  You all are really the best!  Keep listening and hope to see you on October 10th in Nashville!

Love,

Donna
