Hey Everybody checking in for Friday Follies! I hope everything in your life is going your way, that you have faith in your heart and dreams you’re working on. You know that I’m always wishing you the greatest health you can imagine and that you’re watching your diets and making progress. Basically I just want you to be healthy and happy and engaged in life so that you’re satisfied and pleased with the efforts you’re making.
I guess I’m still in the interview mode since I’ve done some interviews lately, so I thought I’d share with you a few of the questions I’m getting about my new song, “You Can Count on Me.”
“How would you describe your new record and what do you like best about it?”
Well, it’s a fun record and very musical. It’s got some kind of magic to it that just makes you feel good when you hear it. It’s a song about love and loyalty, a reciprocal relationship, an expression about true love. It makes you smile, and you just want to hear it again and again and again.
“What role did Stan play?”
He was the producer. He mixed it of course and just perfectly. Stan was always an excellent manager. He taught me so much and was the inspiration of many of the songs I wrote. He chose the musicians and singers with the help of our best friend in the music business, David Briggs, who was leader on the session as always. (Unfortunately David died recently. David played on all of our records except one. He was such a fine musician and will be so missed by the many artists whose careers he contributed to. He played keyboards. There really is no one like him that I know of. He played for Elvis and so very many others. He interpreted every song with such artistry and class. Nashville may never be the same without David’s talent. He was just the best.)
“What is it that makes you want to hear any song again and again and again?”
Well, some of them tell a story, some just lift your spirits, and some will affect your mood in a positive way. With “You Can Count on Me,” you get lost in the feeling. I love the fiddle solo in it – it’s a surprise. All the singers were great. Stan had them singing in parts of the song that maybe you wouldn’t expect, say other than the chorus or a tag. It’s just cool, I think.
“How is it different from other songs you’ve written that are also fun songs, like ‘Superman,’ for example, ‘It Do Feel Good’ or ‘Rotten Little Song’?”
Oh my, I rarely ever compare songs. I mean they’re all so different even though they may fall into a category of fun songs. “You Can Count on Me” is serious in a way, like the singer is a strong person who wouldn’t want someone who doesn’t want her. She definitely seems to make the statement that she will give it “all she has” if the relationship is reciprocal. But the outstanding element to me about the song is that it really makes you feel good.
Okay, gotta’ run. Take good care of yourself and stay safe.
You know I love you.
